The State Scientific Library in Košice is a cultural institution which is focused on library services, information, bibliographic, research, educational and cultural activities. It has been providing its services to the public since 1946 and is constantly working to expand and modernize its activities.
The establishment of the exhibition called “The Vizsoly Bible” in the building of the Study Room of Historical Holdings and Regional Literature at Pri Miklušovej väznici 1 in Košice is one of the main results of the project titled “A Unique Part of Hungarian Literature – the Vizsoly Bible – can also be found in Košice”.
The Vizsoly Bible is a translation of the entire Bible into the Hungarian language which was carried out by Protestant clerics during the Renaissance. The Bible was published in the Abaúj region by the printer Valentín Mančkovič in 1590. It is now widely recognised as one of the treasures of literary culture in Hungary.
